Cool Sculpting

The popular new body contouring treatment

Wonder how Jennifer Aniston manages to look perfect all the time? Or how Khloe Kardashian or Mariah Carey, who have had weight fluctuations in the past, are now sporting a slimmer figure with ease? CoolSculpting is the new big body contouring treatment that is growing in popularity.

When it comes to your reflection, you can be your own toughest critic. Even that favourite outfit can feel off-limits because of stubborn fat that resists diet and exercise. But the CoolSculpting procedure shapes what you see without surgery or downtime, so you’ll look great from every angle.

CoolSculpting technology safely delivers precisely controlled cooling to gently and effectively target the fat cells underneath the skin while leaving the skin itself unaffected. The treated fat cells are crystallised (frozen), then die. Over time your body naturally processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells, leaving a more sculpted you.

Q.     What is cool sculpting? What areas can you treat?

A. Coolsculpting is the only treatment approved by US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for fat layer reduction. Cryolipolysis or ‘fat freezing’, the name of the process, is based on the principle that the fat cells are more susceptible to cooling than other cells. When exposed to low temperatures, fat cells are triggered to undergo natural cell death, and finally be removed by the lymphatic system. This results in volume reduction and restructuring of the subcutaneous fat layer over a period of time.

Both men as well as women can treat their targeted areas with cryolipolysis. The various areas which can be treated are the double chin, abdomen, flank, bra fat, banana roll, arms and thighs inner.

Q. Is this a permanent solution? Does it also help reduce weight?

A. Yes, the results achieved are long-lasting and may not have to be repeated. The results are visible in 60 to 90 days. It is not anti-obesity or a weight loss treatment. People leading a healthy lifestyle, working out, eating consciously but still having some areas of stubborn fat pockets can get the best outcome.

Q.   What are some of the precautions that one needs to take to prevent side-effects of cool sculpting?

A. Though a fairly simple and easy procedure, the downside of the treatment is that there is numbness on the treated area for a few days post-procedure. During the treatment, initially you feel the pinch of the vacuum for five to seven minutes after which you do not feel anything. All you have to do is sit and enjoy your leisure time doing nothing, or catch up on a movie or chat with your friends. However, certain areas like the arms especially are prone to bruises after the treatment.

Q.   Anything else that you wish to add?

A. It is one of the most sought-after procedures for body contouring. So far worldwide, there are seven million successful cases.
