Botanical Fusion – Singapore Botanic Gardens Exhibition by Irish artist Gerard Byrne

Ireland’s Ambassador in Singapore, H.E. Mr Patrick Bourne, will officially open ‘Botanical Fusion’ – an exhibition of works by renowned Irish contemporary artist Gerard Byrne, at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Thursday 5 September.

The exhibition features 22 artworks by the modern impressionist who is recognised as one of Europe’s leading living artist.

Works from the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland at Glasnevin, Dublin, and from Kew Gardens, London, will be displayed side by side with new paintings of Singapore’s UNESCO-listed Gardens, created by the artist since he began a visit to Singapore in early August.

‘The Irish Government and the Embassy is delighted to support this wonderful project’, said Ambassador Bourne, speaking ahead of the exhibition opening.  ‘Irish people and the people of Singapore have many things in common, including a shared love of Botanic Gardens and art.’

The Irish artist, Gerard Byrne, makes no secret of the fact that he has fallen in love with the Singapore Botanic Gardens.  ‘It is a joy to paint in these wonderful Gardens’, he commented, ‘It is a place that just keeps on giving – exotic foliage, vivid colours, extraordinary forms.  The Gardens are an endless source of inspiration.’

The exhibition is being hosted by the Singapore Botanic Gardens, and will be at the People’s Gallery with works on display in the open-air exhibition areas near the Tanglin, Nassim and Bukit Timah gates of the Gardens.

Dr. Nigel Taylor, Group Director of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, said ‘We are very happy to welcome an artist who is so in tune with nature. He has produced some great works at the Singapore Botanic Gardens and we look forward to sharing them and earlier works from Europe with visitors to the Gardens’.
