Being an Indian, but brought up in Singapore, my travels tomy native country have usually taken me to the northern part of India with the South eluding me. So recently when I was invited to be part of an inaugural flight to Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, I literally leapt at the opportunity.
On February 15, Malindo Air launched its service to this new and upcoming hotspot destination. And I was suitable impressed by both its service and the destination. The city which has recovered swiftly from one of the largest typhoons, Hudud, is back with a bang and cleaned up quicker than most first world cities could ever dream of doing.
Located in the South-east coast of Bay of Bengal, Vizag, as it is popularly known, is often called The Jewel of the East Coast. It has one of the largest harbours in the country, catering to the petroleum, steel and fertilizer industries. Even the IT services industry is growing after the setting up of a special economic zone. The Eastern Naval Command is also headquartered in this city. With so much potential, increasing connectivity was a logical business decision.
Flights into the city take no time from Singapore. In just four-and-a-half hours at a ticket price of MYR299 (one way) you can find yourself flying in quality style with a TV for every passenger and a meal to boot. Of course you have to make the stop at KL airport, which isn’t too much of a hassle, as it has some of the best amenities to stave off boredom while you wait for your transfer.
