Twelve boys and their football coach missing in caves in Thailand for nine days have been found emaciated but alive by divers, sparking jubilation across the nation.
The boys aged 11 to 16 and their 25-year old coach were discovered by two British divers on a ledge in a cavern on the night of July 2 after a marathon search operation hampered by heavy rain and floods in the Tham Luang caves in Chiang Rai.
But they will need to learn to dive or wait for months for the flood waters to recede before they can get out, the Thai armed forces said.
"We will prepare to send additional food to be sustain them for at least four months and train all 13 to dive while continuing to drain the water," said Thai Navy Captain Anand Surawan as food and medical supplies were provided to the boys and their coach.
More than 1,000 people were involved in the rescue operation, including teams from China, Myanmar, Laos and Australia.
