Senator Ted Cruz ended his bid for presidency Tuesday night, after losing to Donald Trump in the Indiana primaries.
“I said I would continue on as long as there is a viable path to victory,” Cruz told his supporters in Indianapolis. “Tonight, I’m sorry to say, it appears that path has been foreclosed.”
Cruz is known for his hard line policies on immigration—calling for the creation a wall along the border between Mexico and the U.S—as well as his opposition to Obamacare. If he had won, he would have been the first Hispanic U.S President.
However, he could not compete with Trump’s appeal amongst working-class voters, who are determined to put him in the White House.
Trump’s ‘us versus them’ rhetoric—which includes critical statements against women, immigrants, and Muslims—has made him the Republican frontrunner, and ensured his position in the GOP race for presidency.
