An astounding 250 students flocked to MDIS (Stirling Road) on Valentine’s Day for Tarang 2016, which is in its 8th year now. Radiant smiles plastered across their faces, the participants of the four universities, National Univeristy of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Institute of Mangament (SIM) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) were early and enthusiastically preparing for what they had been waiting for months.
Despite technical difficulties, the 12-hour event started off with a bang! It was encouraging to hear that many of the performers had stayed back after lectures till the wee hours of the morning to practice for their respective performances for four weeks straight and that displayed their enthusiasm and dedication. The students were excited and persevered on, with many even skipping lunch to rehearse more. While the sporting event, Khel, took place earlier, the main events which include Music, Drama, Dance and Movies took place yesterday. It was a great delight to see a female drummer from SIM and saxaphone player from SUTD as well, which everyone agreed is a rare sight these days.
As one of the main sponsors, our Managing Director, Shobha Tsering Bhalla delivered a short speech congratulating the organisers and participants of Tarang 2016. She hoped that this would grow into an even bigger event next year with lots more participation. India Se has sponsored a two rolling trophies for the overall winner and runner up. This year, the first prize went to NTU while the second position was taken by NUS.
