The Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SICCI), one of Singapore’s oldest chambers of commerce and industry, celebrated its 90th anniversary with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong as Guest of Honour at a special gala dinner and the SICCI-DBS Indian Entrepreneur Awards (SIEA) 2014.
SICCI also unveiled the three SICCI Tribute Awards to honor prominent individuals who have contributed significantly to Singapore's economic success and community development. The winners of the awards are Singapore’s immediate past President S R Nathan, Chandra Das, Chairman of Tamil Murasu and Murli Kewalram Chanrai, Chairman of the Kewalram Chanrai Group, the parent company of agri-business giant Olam International Ltd.
The SICCI-DBS Outstanding Entrepreneur, Promising Entrepreneur and New Upcoming Entrepreneur awards were presented to Ajit Aravind Prabhu, Chairman & CEO of QuEST Global Service, Gopal Balakrishnan, Director of A-Star Testing & Inspection, Dinesh Verma, Chairman of V 2 U Healthcare respectively.
PM Lee said, "I hope companies will take advantage of the favourable relations between the two countries, and the new markets and business opportunities in India," He added, "A key factor is the decisive mandate Prime Minister Modi has, and his determination to make fundamental changes to progressively promote growth and investments."
Speaking to an audience of close to 1,000 who attended the Gala Dinner, SICCI’s Chairman, Dr R Theyvendran said, “As we celebrate our 90th anniversary, we will embark on new initiatives to offer more value-added services to enhance our membership and we will also implement a new ‘Venture India’ drive to encourage and facilitate Singapore businesses – especially homegrown SMEs – to seize the wealth of opportunities that India, the third largest economy in Asia, can offer.”
