Recently launched news channel by Arnab Goswami, Republic, has recently aired tapes on Sunanda Pushkar’s death and her husband Shashi Tharoor’s alleged involvement in it.

The expose featured several phone recordings between the reporter, Sunanda Pushkar, Shashi Tharoor and his right-hand man Narayan. The report also stated that Pushkar’s body was moved from Room 307 to 345 alleging tampering before investigation.

On January 17, 2014, Sunanda Pushkar was found dead in Delhi’s Leela Palace hotel with the police calling the circumstances ‘mysterious’.

The news channel also showed a recording between Prema Sridevi, a journalist of Republic TV and Sunanda Pushkar which they allege revealed that Sunanda wanted to divulge "everything", before she "mysteriously" died.

Meanwhile Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has responded sharply. He termed the reports "misrepresentations and outright lies".

"Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations and outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist," Tharoor said in a Facebook post.

"I am angered that someone would exploit a human tragedy for personal gain and TRPs. I challenge him to prove his false claims in a court of law," the former UN diplomat said.
