Pakistan’s Supreme Court will not allow Indian content to be shown on Pakistani TV channels as it “damages our culture”.
Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said this on Wednesday (January 9) when a three-judge bench headed by him was hearing an appeal against a ban on broadcast of Indian content, reports Dawn.
The appeal was filed by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra).
In 2016, Pemra had imposed a complete ban on Indian content in reprisal against similar action by the Indian entertainment industry against Pakistani content, says Dawn.
The Pemra-imposed ban was lifted by the Lahore High Court in 2017. But the Supreme Court reinstated the ban in October 2018.
