“Things that are important do not change. The Kampung Spirit has been integral to Singapore’s rich heritage and will continue to live on.” – said Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister for Social and Family Development.
As we prepare to usher in the much-anticipated Ramadan and Hari Raya Adilfitri in the upcoming month of June, the Hari Raya Light Up 2016 will be back with its breath-taking display of lights and colours at the iconic Geylang Serai. The Hari Raya Light Up 2016, themed “Deepening the Kampong Spirit”, has been designed to resurrect our nostalgia during our kampong days. It will consist of set-ups primarily inspired by the evolution of batik designs over the years, with traditional and modern motif influences significant to the Malay community.
This year’s Hari Raya Light Up continues to expand its outreach beyond just the Muslim community, presenting itself as a celebratory platform for both Muslims and non-Muslims to strengthen their interfaith understanding.
“As we observe Ramadan and look forward to Hari Raya this year, we invite all of Singapore, and our friends from around the world, to join us in this celebration to get to know one another at a deeper level,” said Associate Professor Fatimah Lateef, Advisor to Marine Parade GROs (Geylang Serai Division).
The month-long Hari Raya Light Up 2016 is open to public from Saturday, 4th June 2016 at 8pm at the former Malay Village.
