The twists, the turns, the flips! The thrill-filled ‘Kooza’ by Cirque Du Soleil is set to hit Singaporean stages on the 12th of July. A spectacle with thrilling stunts and death-defying acts, opulent costumes and extravagant makeup, compelling music and spectacular performers, it is set to be a crowd pleaser.
Kooza, written and directed by David Shiner tells the story of ‘The Innocent’ - who represents the child in all of us - as he wanders throughout a dream world inhabited with eccentric characters who execute electrifying stunts to perfection.
The cast of this production comprises 50 acrobats, musicians, singers and actors from 19 different countries and brings a lot of cultural diversity to the show. Indeed, Kooza seems to be heavily influenced with the Indian culture. The Opening Act is performed to a medley of Bollywood beats and Jean-François Côté, the composer of Kooza explained, “I also drew upon traditional Indian music and film scores from the 40s and 50s, a period I'm particularly fond of." Indian culture also seems to have permeated the costume department with the female performers’ headdress being adorned with a matha patti.
Kooza has been praised for it’s return to authentic, original circus tricks such as the teeterboard act, contortions, high wires and many, many more which truly deliver the circus-experience to the audience, especially as it is performed in the blue-and-yellow Big Top reminiscent of so many of our childhood circus troupes.
Kooza will be performed in the Big Top near Marina Bay Sands from July 12-Aug 20, 2017.
