Actress-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan has declared assets worth Rs 1,000 crore (about US$154.3 million) held by her and her superstar husband Amitabh Bachchan. That’s more than four times the amount the reigning box office king Shah Rukh Khan is estimated to earn in a single year. Khan was the highest paid Bollywood actor in 2017 when he was estimated to have earned US$38 million, according to Forbes. Bachchan was estimated to have earned US$9 million that year by Forbes. But Bachchan is 75, Khan 52. When others his age are rocking off into the sunset, Big B is still minting money. Here’s a peek at the Bachchan fortune which has more than doubled in recent years.
Jaya Bachchan, 69, who recently filed her nomination as a Samajwadi Party candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls, declared assets worth Rs 1,000 crore – up from Rs 493 crore in 2012 when she last submitted an affidavit to the Election Commission. According to her latest affidavit, she and her husband have immovable assets worth more than Rs 460 crore – more than double the Rs 152 crore they owned in 2012. The value of their movable assets too rose from around Rs 343 crore in 2012 to around Rs 540 crore.
First elected to the Rajya Sabha as a Samajwadi Party member in 2006, Jaya is seeking re-election for a fourth term.
Her affidavit showed she and her husband own gold and jewellery worth over Rs 62 crore. The Bachchans also own 12 vehicles, worth over Rs 13 crore. These include a Rolls-Royce, three Mercedes, a Porsche and a Range Rover. Amitabh also owns a Tata Nano and a tractor.
Amitabh and Jaya own watches worth around Rs 3.4 crore and Rs 51 lakh, respectively. The former possesses a pen worth over Rs 9 lakh. The Bachchans also own a 3,175 square metre residential property in Brignogan Plage in France. In addition, they have properties in Noida, Bhopal, Pune, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.
But the Bachchan fortune pales beside the assets declared by another Rajya Sabha. With declared assets worth over Rs. 4,000 crore, Mahendra Prasad or King Mahendra as he is known, is all set to enter Rajya Sabha for the seventh term, reports NDTV.The 78-year-old filed his nomination papers from Bihar as a candidate of the JD(U) for the third time.
