The Singapore government has put in place schemes to groom and develop young designers to be captains of industry, Senior Minister of State for Law and Finance Indranee Rajah said on March 9. She was speaking at the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore, Gala and Award Night at the Pan Pacific Hotel.
The DesignSingapore Council scholarship supports talented, creative individuals pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in design, including interior design, she said. Mid-career people in the design field can also upskill and reskill, using the Skillsfuture Study Awards for Design, administered by the DesignSingapore Council, she added.
She noted that the Society of Interior Designers, Singapore, was working with the DesignSingapore Councilto promote and grow Singapore’s design sector.
Singapore interior designers swept 33 awards including three golds and the SIDA Concept Award at the Singapore Interior Design Awards (SIDA) 2017 celebrating the best projects conceptualised or completed in 2017. Award submissions were received from around the world, including Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. Singapore designers won nearly a quarter of the awards presented.
