Move over Sheryl Sandberg, hello Hong Sin Kwek! Serial entrepreneur and potential poster girl for self-schooled success, living, breathing proof  that you don't need degrees to succeed to the nth degree! The 53-year-old Singaporean has no degree. Due to circumstances and poverty, she studied only up to Secondary 4, yet she has started and sold two IT firms in the last 20 years and is now operating her third tech company which has a strong social focus.

"I established my company Phoenixict with the intent to recognise the great skill and expertise of the crowd to bridge businesses effectively and efficiently through genuine relationships and connections. Leveraging on crowd wisdom, we support the market idea through crowdfunding and crowdsourcing," she says.

India Se Media managing director Shobha Tsering Bhalla met her at the Singapore Fintech Festival on November 16. She takes to such events like a duck to water. She is among the organisers of Crowdfunding Asia, the first conference of its type focused on the Asian markets. Crowdfunding Asia held its first event in Singapore in 2014. "Crowdfunding is a crowd game," she says. We will take her word for that. But let's add, she knows how to stand out in a crowd!
