EgyptAir Flight MS804, traveling from Paris to Cairo disappeared over the Mediterranean Sea early Thursdaymorning - taking 56 passengers and 10 crew members with it. Reasons for the crash remain unknown, although Egyptian and Russian officials have cited terrorism as a possible culprit.
"I don't deny the hypothesis of a terrorist attack or something technical. It is too early," Egypt’s Aviation Minister, Sherif Fathy, said.
"The possibility of having a different action onboard, of having a terror attack, it is higher than the possibility of having a technical [failure]," he added.
According to Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos, the plane made two sharp swerves, and fell a total of 6,700 meters over Egyptian airspace before disappearing from radar screens altogether.
“Whether it was an accident or another hypothesis that everyone has on their mind — a terrorist hypothesis… at this stage we must focus on our solidarity with the families and the search for the causes of the catastrophe,” French President, Francois Hollande, said.
On Friday, Egypt Air’s Vice President Ahmed Adel claimed to have found the wreckage in the sea. However, officials now say that they were mistaken and that the debris was not a part of their plane.
