Overweight and obesity are leading risks for global deaths. Withthe World Health Organization stating that these numbers have only doubled since 1980, doctors specialising in this area have gained prominence. Hence specialists like Dr Ganesh Ramalingam, General Surgeon with Special Interest: Gastrointestinal, Bariatric, Trauma and Laparoscopic Surgery at PanAsia Surgery Pte Ltd are in high demand.
The lean and tall Ganesh Raamalingam is an apt poster boy for his forte and this is re-emphasised by the fact that he was a keen football player during his younger days and is currently a member of the Football Association of Singapore Medical Committee.
Here are excerpts of an interview with Dr Ganesh Ramalingam:
India Se: Tell us about your background and education. Are you a first or second generation Singaporean?
Ganesh Ramalingam: I was born in Singapore, but I spent some years in Bahrain and Greece as my father was posted there. I was brought up in a kampong (farm) in Sembawang studying in a neighbourhood school.
I moved to Raffles Institution where I qualified for GEP (gifted education programme) and studied medicine at the National University of Singapore. I acquired my post-graduate degree (Edinburgh) specialising in surgery. Later I went to Israel for a year to further sub-specialise in Trauma surgery.
