Canadian ice hockey legend Wayne Gretzky once said, “A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.” This quite aptly summarises Dr Yegappan career who has played to his strengths – balancing his skills as a fine surgeon with his desire to be associated with sports. After all, the 6-ft tall orthopaedic and sports doctor was a competitive hockey player till quite recently.
His sporting attitude and exposure to theatre was also evident during the photoshoot for this cover – he was game enough to experiment with his looks and pose for our lensman!
But what struck us when we met Yegappan for his interview was his warm and pleasant personality that no doublt would immediately put any patient at ease. His educational qualifications are impressive enough to provide the much needed extra comfort and confidence. He has a medical degree from the National University of Singapore (1992) and postgraduate medical qualifications from the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Glasgow and Edinburgh (1997). He subsequently obtained a Fellowship in Orthopedics, Sports Medicine from Indiana, US. He is involved in various researches and studies conducted internationally and locally, apart from contributing to international publications.
