I recently read a funny Facebook update by some unknown person whothought the only chance of losing weight with the help of green tea “is to climb into (up the) mountains to collect it.” This, I’m sure, will harry many a green tea loyalists, who swear by its healing properties – me included (full disclosure).
Green tea is technically unoxidised tea that first originated in the South-west region of China more than 3,000 years ago. Historians are of the opinion that in early times its leaves were probably chewed and eaten, but later it was brewed.
Over a period of time the tea culture grew with the Wei Jin Northern and Southern dynasties, Tang, Song and Ming dynasties. But it was only in the early 1900’s, Chinese green teas quickly became very popular overseas and in 1915 Xinyang Maojian won gold medal for ‘best tea in the world’ at the Panama World Expo. Today green tea is considered to be one of the healthiest beverages. It is loaded with antioxidants, nutrients, improves brain function, fat loss, lower risk of cancer and other benefits
