Rudyard Kipling once appropriately said, “God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers.”

Celebrating Mother’s Day is not a new tradition as mothers have been commemorated on different days across cultures. For instance, in India, mothers are paid homage on Saraswati Puja during Devi Navratri with Matri Puja while in Nepal, it is called “Mata Tirtha Aunshi” or “Mother Pilgrimage fortnight” falling in the month of Baisakh (April/May).

However, the modern Mother’s Day, as celebrated by most of us, was started in the United States and falls on the second Sunday of May. On this day children get a chance to make their mothers feel loved and respected by showering them with hand-made gifts and edible treats.

For our May issue, we asked a few children and their mothers what they would like to cook this year. These are what they and their mothers came up with!
