For a foodie like me, an important economic indicator of a country’s fiscal health is the number of upmarket eateries that are flourishing in the land.
By that rule of thumb, Singapore’s economic landscape appears to be thriving. Every few months one hears of the launch of a new fine dining restaurant here or a new wine bar there bearing anecdotal witness to this observation. This also means that the number of tastings one does as a reviewer is palate-numbingly countless. Indeed, simple meals are what most food reviewers crave to counter the after-effects of the high-priced, fancy fare that has become their “bread and butter” so to speak.
But I was pleasantly surprised to find an exceptional Italian restaurant that made me want to return there a few days later. Simply named Buona Terra (the Good Earth), this elegant eatery is a gastronomic tour de force.
