US President Donald Trump hailed ethnic Indian police officer Ronil “Ron” Singh, recently killed by an illegal alien in California, as a “national hero”.
In a televised address to the nation seeking US5.7 billion to build a wall on the border with Mexico, Trump paid tribute to Corporal Singh, shot dead at a traffic stop a day after Christmas by an illegal immigrant named Gustavo Perez Arriaga. Arriaga was planning to flee to Mexico when he killed Singh, 33, a native of Fiji who joined the Newman Police Department in California in 2011.

In his speech, Trump said: “America’s heart broke the day after Christmas when a young police officer in California was savagely murdered in cold blood by an illegal alien, who just came across the border. The life of an American hero was stolen by someone who had no right to be in our country.”
“How much more American blood must we shed before Congress does its job?” he asked, demanding Congress pass a bill allocating US$5.7 billion to build the wall. The Democrats oppose his demand, leading him to shut down the government, forcing government employees to work without pay or go on unpaid leave.
Last week, Trump spoke to Ronil’s widow, Amanika ‘Mika’ Chand-Singh, and expressed his condolences.
