“Come, let’s do the downward-facing dog pose,” the children chant together. The page in Let’s Do Yoga, a children’s book on the subject by Coonoor Kripalani goes on to describe how the pose is carried out and its benefits with illustrations of two children doing the pose.
The book, which will be launched at the forthcoming Asian Festival of Children’s Content, has garnered an excellent reception, reports a delighted Kripalani. “I have had very favourable reactions from parents and teachers, but what is particularly rewarding is that children love it. Parents tell me that their two and three-year olds know all the asanas in the book, that they do them together as a family, and that the children will go seek out this yoga book and demand to be read to, as they perform the asanas. In India, yoga has been formally added to the school curriculum, so this book is timely in providing something extra and beautifully, yet playfully, illustrated to inspire children in this field.”
