American award winning writer, Andre Dubus said, “I love short stories because I believe they are the way we live. They are what our friends tell us, in their pain and joy, their passion and rage, their yearning and their cry against injustice.”
Ananya Mukherjee’s first book – Ardh-Satya – The Half Truth & Other Stories, does just that. It consists of 20 short stories that surprise and even jolt you. Mostly set in a modern milieu, the stories are easy to relate tp. Whether it is the story about the secret life of Ashutosh Dixit or the relationship with Daddy Long Legs or the documentary film maker in search of the Rafflesia who discovers something more important, these are contemporary tales that make for a good read.
Mukherjee, who was born and raised in India, has lived in 15 states. Her exposure to different cultures, languages, nuances and people are reflected in her writing. Having worked as a journalist in print and TV in India and Singapore, she has covered a vast range of subjects. She is currently head of Internal Communications for a multinational company based in Singapore.
