Dancer Kalpana has tapped local talent for a performance that pays tribute to Singapore

Imagine reaching your dance rehearsal and then being given a written assignment on what your thoughts would be if you were the city of Singapore! With such a thought-provoking approach, Kalpana Raghuraman’s work is characterised by an openness, which is inviting and seeks out experiment and versatility. Kalpana is a full-time dancer, choreographer and teacher of dance. Born and raised in The Netherlands yet deeply rooted in her South Indian cultural roots, Kalpana sees herself as one who creates bridges– between cultures, traditions and people.
Under the aegis of Samarpana-the Asian Festival of Classical Dance, Kalpana is choreographing a tribute to Singapore, ‘Through The Eyes Of My City’, will be performed on August 23, 2015 at the Esplanade Theatre Studio. This production is in collaboration with top dance production house, Korzo Theater in The Hague, where Kalpana is artiste-in-residence.
