What is the common thread between Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Gandhi and you? A BaiLou Weave- that could well be yours this March! The brainchild of Bappaditya Biswas, BaiLou has revived the fortunes of West Bengal’s weavers and won legions of admirers.
Listening to Bappa talk, one is drawn to the fervor and drive in him to transform the world of handloom.
Aided by his wife Rumi, Bappa’s work in rejuvenating the Bengal weaves and in creating different textures has won BaiLou the UNESCO Seal of Excellence. In an environment where nothing is thrown away, BaiLou recycles, reinvents and rethinks the whole approach to design. As Bappa says, the manually intensive process 'has the lowest carbon footprint possible!'
On March 11th 2015, the team at Artizen, a Singapore- based undertaking, devoted to the promotion of the works of art created on Indian looms, will host Bappaditya Biswas and exhibit a curated selection of BaiLou saris and stoles. The event will be inaugurated by India Se’s Managing Director, Shobha Tsering Bhalla.
