Matchmaking is a popular pastime in Indian households. Earlier, it would be the ‘friendly’ aunt or the family pandit who would try to play matchmaker. But now with the internet and social media becoming the platform for interaction, Indian youngsters are turning to matrimonial sites like BharatMatrimony and shaadi.com to find partners. This trend is quite prevalent among overseas Indians who find a convenient way to suss out potential alliances.
Meet Mansi Maheshwari, 28, and Viral Patel, 31, a newlywed couple who found each other in the virtual space.
Born and brought up in Singapore, Mansi ventured into shaadi.com, only to stumble upon Viral’s profile, an Indian national who had moved to Sydney for higher studies and stayed on there. On April 18, 2013, while living several miles apart, they first spoke to each other on the portal, far from how they would have imagined meeting their future spouses. Now that they are happily married in Singapore, let’s find out how these lovebirds finally tied the knot.
